From its modest roots in 1974 as a local cinema & university event, Film Fest Gent has steadily grown into a renowned destination for the film industry & the World Soundtrack Awards, recognizing the top film composers. In 2016, this honour was bestowed upon the highly acclaimed Ryuichi Sakamoto. This Vinyl Record Import offers a unique overview of his illustrious film scores, featuring the Brussels Philharmonic under the baton of Dirk Brossé, all approved by the composer. Sakamoto, an iconic leader in electronic music & a multi-talented musician/singer, burst into the film scene in 1983 when director Nagisa Oshima cast him in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence alongside David Bowie. With a successful 30+ year career, some of his collaborators include Bernardo Bertolucci, Brian De Palma, Pedro Almodovar & Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
