Propaganda arrived less than a year after Kimono My House and matched it almost song for song. Released in 1974, it opens with a twenty second a cappella title track before At Home At Work At Play launches into the most frantic arrangement the Mael brothers had attempted. Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth is one of the prettiest things in their catalog, a straightforward ballad from a band that rarely allowed itself one. Something For The Girl With Everything is pure velocity, and Achoo remains one of the great absurd Sparks lyrics. Ron Mael's writing is dense with wordplay and Russell's falsetto is at its peak. This 50th anniversary 140 gram colored vinyl pressing gives the record real clarity in the upper mids.
