Seal's second self titled album, produced by Trevor Horn and released in 1994, is one of the great sounding pop records of the decade. Kiss From A Rose won two Grammy awards and spent weeks at number one after Batman Forever put it in front of everyone, but the album around it is far more adventurous than that single suggests. Prayer For The Dying, Newborn Friend and Bring It On layer acoustic guitars, orchestration and programming with Horn's characteristic obsessive detail. Seal's voice sits somewhere between soul and folk, and he wrote most of the material himself. This deluxe 2LP edition gives an album built for headphones the vinyl treatment it always deserved.
