Porno For Pyros was the band Perry Farrell formed immediately after Jane's Addiction fell apart, keeping drummer Stephen Perkins and adding Peter DiStefano and Martyn LeNoble. Released in 1993, the self titled debut is looser and funkier than Jane's, built on Perkins's tribal percussion and Farrell's unmistakable wail. Pets became an alternative radio staple with one of the most quotable choruses of the decade, and Cursed Female and Meija show the band could still summon real menace. The record captures Los Angeles in the immediate aftermath of the riots, and Farrell's writing is more direct about it than people remember. This Rhino Reserve pressing brings a long out of print album back to vinyl with the low end intact.
