Dear Life Records is excited to announce the physical reissue of MJ Lenderman's self-titled debut album. Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, MJ Lenderman is a talented songwriter. An MJ record typically features elements like distorted pedal steel guitars, gritty guitars, and a voice that echoes the haunting melody of a choirboy. His lyrics reflect the insights of a thoughtful philosopher, often evoking deep contemplation. These songs transition smoothly from lo-fi home recordings to more polished tracks created with long-time friends at Asheville’s Drop of Sun studios. Regardless of the environment, the essence of a Lenderman song remains authentic. Recorded, mixed, and mastered digitally in 2019 by Colin Miller in Asheville, NC, "MJ Lenderman" was initially released online and garnered quiet yet significant acclaim. Now, presented as a Double LP, it has been remastered for vinyl by Heather Jones, showcasing the early evolution of a style that balances precision and expansiveness, while retaining a raw edge—a quality consistent throughout MJ’s discography (also see 2021’s ‘Ghost of Your Guitar Solo’ (DLR 016) and 2022’s ‘Boat Songs’ (DLR 031)). Drawing inspiration from 90s slowcore, while incorporating elements reminiscent of Magnolia Electric Co. and the soundscapes of Neil Young and Crazy Horse, these 9 songs, totaling just over an hour in length, create rich, immersive worlds that are both vibrant and calming. The tracks envelop listeners in a blend of urgent and enigmatic emotions, revealing layers of patience and clarity that evolve with each listen.

Shipping
Orders typically ship within two business days. Media Mail might be budget-friendly, but it travels at a glacial pace and gets little love from the postal service. For faster, smoother delivery, choose USPS Priority or UPS/USPS Ground.

Returns
Unopened returns accepted within 30 days — you cover shipping.

If your record arrives damaged or folded (thanks, postal service), reach out ASAP so we can fix it.

After 30 days, it’s yours to keep forever.

Avoid extreme heat or sunlight. Definitely don’t let it mingle with any Justin Bieber records. Treat it like your grandma — gentle, respectful, and quiet during Murder, She Wrote.

Hold up… what were we saying?
