In 2007, William Emmanuel Bevan, alias Burial, blessed us with Untrue - a second record of ghostly soul music, refashioning spectral female vocals into vaporous R&B & blurring 2step garage. All traces of the vocals' original context were sent off, as whispered saccharin words filled the void. Yearning and vibrant syncopations keep the album alive, dancing with the spirit of rave - as well as exposing us to Burial's new glimmering, upbeat energy. Unlike the oppressive misery of the 2006 debut, Untrue has a compassionately depressive euphoria. Many of the tracks are so lush, they become hazardous - haunting us with the rumbles of bass.
