Back in 2021, Douglas Dulgarian from TAGABOW kicked off his new label, Julia’s War Recordings, with a low-key cassette release from a couple of friends—Jake and Karly, better known now as MJ Lenderman & Wednesday. The EP, Guttering, was raw and heartfelt, featuring six home-recorded tracks that were full of grit, hooks, and charm. Stereogum put it best: “Guttering’s six self-recorded tracks present some of the best aspects of both artists’ work, setting sighing harmonies against dense power chords and occasionally seasoning the mix with some twangy lead guitar.”
Fast forward to 2025, and both artists have absolutely taken off. Wednesday’s Rat Saw God blew up in 2023, landing on just about every year-end list. MJ Lenderman followed with Manning Fireworks in 2024, which turned him into a full-blown indie rock star—with sold-out shows and critical praise to match.
