Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving - Pink Jelly Bean Color Vinyl Record
Vince Guaraldi's score for the 1973 holiday special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving went unreleased for half a century, until Lee Mendelson Film Productions issued the complete soundtrack for the 50th anniversary. It charted as a top jazz, soundtrack and children's album and sold through its first run. This indie exclusive repressing arrives on pink jelly bean vinyl.
It is some of the funkiest Guaraldi on record. His quintet, with Mike Clark on drums, Seward McCain on electric bass, Tom Harrell on trumpet and Chuck Bennett on trombone, leans into the East Bay funk sound Clark helped pioneer. Newly mixed from the original sources, the brass-filled "Linus and Lucy" and "Thanksgiving Theme" bring out instruments once buried in the TV mix, and Guaraldi sings the soulful "Little Birdie" himself.
The second half adds bonus mixes and alternate takes of "Thanksgiving Interlude" that show how Guaraldi built the score, plus Guaraldi whistling the melody of "Is It James or Charlie?" Liner notes by Sean Mendelson and artwork from the original special complete the package. A warm addition to any Peanuts or jazz shelf this season.
