Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Sex and Food Vinyl Record

Sex & Food (2018) is Unknown Mortal Orchestra's fourth album and its most adventurous. Ruban Nielson recorded it on the move, in studios in Seoul, Hanoi, Reykjavik, Mexico City and Auckland, with local musicians pitching in along the way. The result is a musical travelogue that asks big questions about what we consume and why everything feels so strange, while still keeping things playful.

The sound shifts constantly: battered drum-machine funk, thrashing rock and pink-hued psychedelic disco. "Hunnybee" is a light-footed R&B love song for his daughter, "Major League Chemicals" stomps with flanged guitars, and "American Guilt" is a surprisingly heavy blast. "Not in Love We're Just High" and "If You're Going to Break Yourself" look at addiction and relationships, while "Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays" turns modern anxiety into a roomy disco groove.

For fans of Multi-Love, Tame Impala and Connan Mockasin, this is UMO at their most eclectic. Drop the needle and take the trip.
