Tycho is the musical alias of Scott Hansen. With Awake, his second LP for Ghostly International, the solo project transformed into a three-piece band. The record is more related to post-rock than ambient soundscapes, and it sounds like Hansen rather than drawing from his influences. This is the first true Tycho record. After the Dive LP in 2011, the San Francisco-based designer toured extensively with a full band on stage. Zac Brown (guitars, bass) rejoined Scott on the road for this tour, and Rory O’Connor’s live drumming sent Hansen back to the studio with a more precise vision.
