Sparkle in the Rain is the sixth studio album from Scotland's Simple Minds, released in February 1984 and long regarded as one of the jewels of their catalogue. Working with producer Steve Lillywhite, the band traded some of the cool, shimmering synth textures of New Gold Dream for a bigger, harder-hitting sound built for arenas.
It became their first Number 1 album in the UK and carried three hit singles: "Waterfront", with its relentless one-note bassline, "Up on the Catwalk" and "Speed Your Love to Me". Deeper in, "Book of Brilliant Things" and "East at Easter" show how anthemic the band had become, and their take on Lou Reed's "Street Hassle" is a moody highlight.
