King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's officially sanctioned Bootlegger Series takes a macabre turn with Skull X-Ray on Having Fun Records. The pressing pays tribute to Soviet-era bone music, the underground records that listeners cut onto discarded medical x-rays to share banned Western music. Here that idea becomes a one-sided picture disc in translucent x-ray form, showing a human skull.
The seven songs come from the band's own Field of Vision festival at Meadow Creek in Buena Vista, Colorado, in August 2025, where they played three marathon sets in three nights. The record opens with a tight run through the I'm In Your Mind Fuzz suite from 2014's I'm In Your Mind Fuzz, then moves into the Inner Cell, Loyalty and Horology stretch from Polygondwanaland, capturing the band at full live intensity.
