John & Cody Carpenter, Daniel Davies - Cathedral - Amethyst Color Vinyl Record

An abandoned cathedral in downtown Los Angeles, a gruesome murder, and something ancient living in the catacombs. Cathedral is John Carpenter's 2025 album and graphic novel, built from a dream he had in 2024, written with Sandy King and Sean Sobczak and published by Storm King Comics.

Working again with son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, Carpenter keeps the eerie atmosphere and sinister propulsion of his Halloween, The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13 scores, then pushes it somewhere heavier and more riff-driven. Davies' snaking guitars lead Primeval, Elevator and Lord of the Underground, while the Carpenters' synths take Desolation in the Underworld and Death of the Mapmaker. Each track corresponds to a section of the book, and the liner notes carry reading prompts for every one, so the record and the novel play together.

Issued by Sacred Bones and pressed here on amethyst color vinyl, a limited color edition for a release built to be experienced rather than filed away.

Worth having on the shelf before this pressing disappears.
