Originally released in 1971, the album titled "Grateful Dead"—unofficially known as "Skull and Roses" due to its iconic cover art—was largely a live recording with some studio enhancements. At this point in their career, the Grateful Dead were at the height of their creative powers, and from here, their legacy would grow to monumental proportions.
This remastered version takes listeners back to the Dead's residency at The Fillmore East in New York. It also includes three tracks that were not featured on the original studio album: “Bertha,” “Playing in the Band,” and “Wharf Rat.”
