Galaxie 500 - This Is Our Music - Vinyl Record
Galaxie 500 made just three albums before splitting in 1991, and This Is Our Music, released on Rough Trade in 1990, was the last. Dean Wareham, Naomi Yang and Damon Krukowski had perfected a sound that was slow, dreamy and quietly devastating, and producer Kramer again wrapped it in a deep, echoing haze that has influenced generations of dream pop and slowcore bands.
The album opens with "Fourth of July," a wry, rolling single built on Yang's bassline and some of Wareham's funniest lyrics. From there it drifts between the gentle "Summertime," the aching "Sorry" and "Melt Away," while a hypnotic cover of Yoko Ono's "Listen, the Snow Is Falling" gives Yang a rare and gorgeous lead vocal.
This reissue on 20|20|20 was remastered by Alan Douches and lacquer cut by Kevin Gray, restoring the warmth and space of the original recordings. A beautiful pressing of an indie touchstone, and an essential pick for fans of Low, Yo La Tengo and the Velvet Underground.
