Sam Shepherd spent five years making this record, and a decade later it still sounds like nothing else. Elaenia was Floating Points' debut album, a patient, shape-shifting work that moves between broken beat, spiritual jazz, and krautrock without ever settling into one lane. Released in 2015 to some of the highest review scores of the year, it announced Shepherd as one of electronic music's most thoughtful composers. It was also the record that caught Pharoah Sanders' ear and eventually led to their landmark collaboration Promises.

"Nespole" opens with delicate piano that slowly gives way to layered synths and live instrumentation. "Silhouettes" unfolds across three connected movements, building tension that pays off beautifully. The title track is the album's warm, meditative core, while "Peroration Six" closes the original sequence with a driving pulse that brings everything full circle. This 10th anniversary edition adds the previously digital-only bonus track "Precursor" and includes the sought-after Kuiper EP on a separate disc. Limited color vinyl in a hand-numbered gatefold jacket.
