After an eleven-year break between projects, Erykah Badu returns with Before the World Blows: The Abi and Alan Experiment, a collaboration with legendary producer The Alchemist. Recorded over 18 months in Dallas and Los Angeles, the album brings together two singular artists for a hypnotic, deeply personal collection exploring love, identity, memory, womanhood, hope, and grief.

Built from Alchemist’s warm, punchy samples and reshaped through Badu’s unmistakable creative vision, the album moves fluidly through soul, blues, funk, rock, jazz, and underground hip-hop. Badu and The Alchemist spent 2024 and 2025 road-testing and refining the music through intimate live performances, resulting in a record that is adventurous, unpredictable, and unmistakably Erykah Badu.
