Melina Duterte, known as Jay Som since 2015, has sculpted a distinct universe through her dream pop anthems. Her musical expressions are a blend of intimate yet vibrant notes, echoing the comforting hum of indie-rock. Amid an era marked by fatigue, the title track from her 2017 breakout album, Everybody Works, continues to offer soothing solace.

Post-Everybody Works, Duterte's life became a maelstrom of global performances and collaborations with notable artists such as Paramore, Death Cab for Cutie, and Mitski. This success followed years of exploring diverse music genres, including jazz trumpet, Filipino karaoke, and indie-pop.

In 2017, Duterte relocated from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, where she expanded her creative repertoire through session work and producing for other artists. Amid the upheavals of the music industry, she sought balance within herself, discovering a new community and experiencing love. After a career that began with a spontaneous release of her 2015 demos, Turn Into, she ultimately embraced sobriety. Duterte’s journey underscores the transformative power of positivity.
