Originally released digitally in 2011, Volume Alpha was pressed to vinyl by Ghostly International in 2015 and has been in demand ever since. "Sweden" became the standout, its slow-building piano melody now one of the most recognized pieces in video game music. "Subwoofer Lullaby" and "Mice on Venus" are just as essential, drifting between calm and wonder. "Minecraft," the very first track Rosenfeld composed for the game, is pure pentatonic minimalism that set the tone for everything that followed. Critics have compared the work to Erik Satie and Brian Eno, and that's not a stretch. This is ambient music that transcends its source material.
