Bullion's Nearly on celadon vinyl from Ghostly International. Bullion is Nathan Jenkins, the producer behind records by Avalon Emerson, Westerman, Nilüfer Yanya, Ben Howard and Oliver Sim of The xx. On his own albums he has often shared the spotlight too; his last, Affection, featured Carly Rae Jepsen and Panda Bear.
Nearly turns that around. "This isn't the record I intended to make," Jenkins says: it began with the idea of making no songs at all and ended up as his most distilled album yet, with his own voice front and centre. The only guest is L Devine, on "Francis Ford" and "The Arm of Cinderella". Warm synths, careful arrangements and quietly emotional hooks make it starry-eyed electronic pop that finds a lot of feeling in restraint.
The pale green celadon pressing is a fitting match for the album's soft-focus palette. One for fans of Caribou, Hot Chip and the gentler end of Ghostly's catalogue.
