Belle and Sebastian's second album arrived in 1996, only months after Tigermilk, and it remains the record most fans point to when they explain why this Glasgow band matters. Stuart Murdoch's songs are small, funny and quietly devastating, populated by bored students, lonely misfits and dreamers, all carried on gentle acoustic guitar, brushed drums, trumpet and Isobel Campbell's cello.

The Stars of Track and Field opens with one of the great first lines in indie pop, The Fox in the Snow drifts by like a winter afternoon, and Judy and the Dream of Horses closes the album on a lullaby that never quite lets you go. Murdoch's wit keeps the melancholy from tipping into self-pity, which is exactly why the record has aged so well.

This Matador LP is a faithful reissue of a true chamber pop touchstone, the kind of album that earns a permanent place on the shelf. If you only own one Belle and Sebastian record, make it this one.

Shipping
Orders typically ship within two business days. Media Mail might be budget-friendly, but it travels at a glacial pace and gets little love from the postal service. For faster, smoother delivery, choose USPS Priority or UPS/USPS Ground.

Returns
Unopened returns accepted within 30 days — you cover shipping.

If your record arrives damaged or folded (thanks, postal service), reach out ASAP so we can fix it.

After 30 days, it’s yours to keep forever.

Avoid extreme heat or sunlight. Definitely don’t let it mingle with any Justin Bieber records. Treat it like your grandma — gentle, respectful, and quiet during Murder, She Wrote.
