American Epic: The Best of Mississippi John Hurt - Vinyl Record
Mississippi John Hurt was a sharecropper from Avalon in the Mississippi hill country who happened to play guitar unlike anyone around him. His fingerpicking is gentle and precise, the thumb keeping a steady bass while the fingers carry the melody, and he sings over it in a warm, unhurried voice that makes murder ballads sound like conversation.
He recorded these sides for OKeh in 1928, sold almost nothing, and went back to farming for three decades. Then Frankie and Spike Driver Blues turned up on Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music in 1952, and a generation of Greenwich Village players went looking for him. His style shaped the folk revival directly and fed into John Fahey's American Primitive guitar.
This Third Man collection gathers thirteen of those original recordings, restored for the American Epic series, including Candy Man Blues, Avalon Blues, Louis Collins and Stack O' Lee Blues. Single LP in a single pocket tip-on jacket with a soft touch finish.

Shipping
Orders typically ship within two business days. Media Mail might be budget-friendly, but it travels at a glacial pace and gets little love from the postal service. For faster, smoother delivery, choose USPS Priority or UPS/USPS Ground.
Returns
Unopened returns accepted within 30 days — you cover shipping.
If your record arrives damaged or folded (thanks, postal service), reach out ASAP so we can fix it.
After 30 days, it’s yours to keep forever.
Avoid extreme heat or sunlight. Definitely don’t let it mingle with any Justin Bieber records. Treat it like your grandma — gentle, respectful, and quiet during Murder, She Wrote.
