In 1989, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble released their fourth studio album, In Step, which won a Grammy Award. This album came out after Stevie Ray became sober, following years of struggling with drugs and alcohol. His journey to sobriety is a big theme throughout the album.

People loved In Step! Allmusic gave it a perfect 5-star rating, saying that it shows all of Stevie Ray's musical talent and feels fresh and exciting. Famous musician Lou Reed also chose In Step as one of his top picks in 1989. The album reached number 33 on the Billboard 200 chart, and the hit single "Crossfire" climbed all the way to number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart.

Sadly, In Step was Stevie Ray's last album with Double Trouble. He passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in 1990. Still, his incredible music and the powerful messages in In Step continue to inspire fans today.
