In 1979 three guys from New Jersey rapped over the bassline from Good Times and accidentally opened the door for everything that followed. Rapper's Delight was the first rap record most of America ever heard, and it is here in its long version, the one that keeps going long after a radio edit would have quit.
Around it sits the rest of the Sugarhill Gang's essential run: Apache, which became the most sampled and most imitated breakdance record of the era, 8th Wonder, and the later cuts that kept the group on the floor into the eighties. Side B opens with a new Greg Wilson and Che remix of Rapper's Delight, its first appearance on a record.
