Black Holes And Revelations is where Muse fully committed to scale. Released in 2006, it trades some of the piano driven angst of earlier records for spaghetti western guitar, arpeggiated synths and conspiracy minded lyrics about surveillance and empire. Supermassive Black Hole brought a falsetto funk strut nobody expected, and Knights Of Cydonia closes the album with galloping riffs and a harmonica solo that somehow works. Starlight and Invincible are the arena moments, while City Of Delusion and Assassin keep the paranoia running underneath. Matt Bellamy's guitar tone is enormous, and Chris Wolstenholme's bass carries far more of the album than casual listeners notice. Pressed on vinyl the low end has real weight. A strong entry point if you are building out a Muse collection.
