The self titled 1983 album, often called the Shapes record, is the exact midpoint between the Genesis of the seventies and the stadium pop of Invisible Touch. Written and recorded largely through improvisation at the band's own studio, it moves from the drum machine paranoia of Mama to the deadpan comedy of Illegal Alien without ever losing the thread. That's All became the hit, Home By The Sea and Second Home By The Sea run nearly twelve minutes across two linked tracks, and Silver Rainbow is one of the trio's most underrated pieces. Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford handled everything themselves, and it shows in how tightly the parts interlock. A rewarding entry point for anyone curious about the band's transitional period.
