Motown Collected - Vinyl Record 2LP
Berry Gordy's Motown turned Detroit into the capital of pop and soul, and Motown Collected tells that story in 33 songs across two LPs. It starts at the very beginning with Marv Johnson's "Come To Me" and Barrett Strong's "Money (That's What I Want)," two of the label's earliest hits.
From there the run is relentless: The Marvelettes, The Temptations, Mary Wells and Martha Reeves & The Vandellas give way to The Supremes, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder and the timeless Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." The second record moves into the 70s and 80s with The Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Thelma Houston, Rick James' "Super Freak" and DeBarge's "Rhythm Of The Night." Lesser-heard picks like Kim Weston's "Helpless" and Tom Clay's spoken-word medley add depth.
Music On Vinyl presses the set on 180-gram black vinyl with an insert of photos and credits. A perfect starting point or gift for any soul fan.
