Placer Found is the debut album from Early Day Miners, the Bloomington, Indiana project led by Dan Burton. It first appeared in 2000 on Western Vinyl as a CD only, so this 20th anniversary edition on Secretly Canadian is the first time it has ever been pressed to vinyl.
The music sits somewhere between slowcore and post-rock: patient, interlocking guitars, hushed vocals and long songs that unfold at their own pace. "East Berlin at Night" is cinematic and spacious, "In These Hills" runs close to nine minutes, and "Desert Cantos" stretches past thirteen. Charlie Hall of the War on Drugs has called it music that "rewards patience."
The album has been fully remixed and remastered for this gatefold 2LP set, and Side D adds two previously unreleased instrumentals from the original sessions, including "Blue Casino," built on a riff the band later reworked into "Jefferson." A beautiful, overdue edition.
