Sauna is a lushly produced and deeply moving "ultimate" Mount Eerie album, with the music hinting at something grand and final, or a sparkling new start. Its intricately crafted songs focus on these themes, while the instruments, melodies, and imagery are powerful and vivid. Fully analog recording at the Unknown creates the album's wide-ranging and crisp soundscape, while still staying rustic and real. Phil Elverum is joined by Allyson Foster and Ashley Eriksson on vocals, their harmonies cutting through the brilliant sonic swirl. Gongs shimmer, bass hums, organs drench, and the piano is half-buried. Is that drums or logs crashing? Flutes or laughter? Actual steam coils in the air.

 

Twelve songs, 55 minutes total, inhabiting two high resolution 45rpm LPs, super-pretty heavy old-style gatefold jackets, jumbo poster, download card… the works.

Returns
