Arca a signé avec XL Recordings pour la sortie de son troisième album qui est orné d'illustrations évocatrices de son collaborateur fréquent Jesse Kanda. L'ensemble éponyme de 13 pistes fait suite à Mutant de 2015 et est une sortie violemment personnelle pour l'artiste né au Venezuela et basé à Londres. S'exprimant sur le LP, il a déclaré: "Voici ma voix et tous mes tripes: n'hésitez pas à la juger. C'est comme une corrida: vous regardez la violence émotionnelle pour le plaisir. C'est donc un personnage qui, presque comme une parodie de la transaction , va inconfortablement profondément, dans l'automutilation. 'Tu veux du gore ? Voilà du gore'".
