Lael Neale's new album "Star Eaters Delight," her second for Sub Pop, is a product of her two-year isolation in rural Virginia. The album reveals an expansion of her sonic collaboration with producer Guy Blakeslee, with cinematic arrangements creating an ambient space in which Neale's clear and unaffected voice can explore familiar themes unexpectedly. The album, created without screens, is a reaching back out to the world, an attempt to feel connected, to wake up and to come together again. Despite being a record about polarities such as country vs. city and humanity vs. technology, its deeper intention is to heal and put the broken pieces of society back together. Neale's affinity with the Transcendentalists is evident in her quest to hold onto sovereignty over her own mind, a minimalist approach that values freedom over material possessions.
