Mutter is Rammstein's most fully realized album and the point where the band's cinematic side took over. Released in 2001, it pairs industrial metal guitars with orchestral arrangements recorded in Bucharest, and the result is closer to a film score with distortion than to anything on the radio at the time. Sonne opens with a countdown and a riff built like a machine. Ich Will and Feuer Frei are the concert staples, while the title track and Nebel show how much melancholy Till Lindemann can carry with that voice. The production is enormous and unusually clean for the genre, which makes this limited 2LP pressing worth the shelf space. If you only own one Rammstein record, this is the one.
