John Maus Later Than You Think Clear Ice Blue Vinyl Record Limited Edition
Seven years after Addendum, John Maus came back in September 2025 with his sixth album and his first for Young, the label that houses FKA twigs, The xx and Sampha. Later Than You Think is a record about justice, confession and spiritual warfare, and it is more urgent than anything he has made.
The method has not changed: cathedral reverb, cheap synths, medieval harmony and that unmistakable baritone buried somewhere in the middle of it. What has changed is the pace. Sixteen songs in roughly forty minutes, most of them under three, so nothing outstays its argument. "I Hate Antichrist" led the campaign with a video by Andrew Norman Wilson. "Theotokos" and "Adorabo" pull the liturgical thread all the way through, and "Tous Les Gens Qui Sont Ici Sont D'ici" arrives in French for good measure.
Maus holds a degree in experimental music from CalArts and a PhD in political science, which is how he ended up labelled a philosopher pop star. This is the limited clear ice blue pressing, and it will not be around long.
