Jeff Rosenstock - SKA DREAM - Black & White Split Color Vinyl
In 2020 Jeff Rosenstock released NO DREAM. A year later he released the whole thing again, re-recorded from top to bottom as ska. That is SKA DREAM, and the joke is only the entry point: horn sections, upstrokes and skank rhythms turn songs about dread and exhaustion into something that moves, and the new arrangements find corners the originals never reached.
Titles get rewritten in the same spirit, from NO TIME TO SKANK to Leave It In The Ska to Ohio Porkpie, and a small army of guests from the DIY and third-wave ska worlds fills out the horns. It works because Rosenstock has been steeped in this music since his Bomb The Music Industry days, so the playing is affectionate rather than ironic.
Hear it next to NO DREAM and it becomes a strange kind of double album, the same twelve months seen from two directions. Pressed on 180 gram black and white split color vinyl.
