This was the fourth album by the Go-Betweens, hailed by Record Collector as "one of the greatest albums of the decade." Uncut praised how "everything comes together with the perfect fourth album." Drummer Lindy Morrison reflected on the creative process: "We produced this ourselves and it's got the best songs, and I think every single song is a classic." The band entered the studio with a clear vision. As Forster later explained, "If this was to be our last shot, it had to be on our terms.
