Black Marble - Bigger Than Life - Royal Blue Color Vinyl
Black Marble's Bigger Than Life on translucent royal blue vinyl, pressed in 2022 for Sacred Bones' 15-year anniversary series. It is Chris Stewart's third album as Black Marble and the first he made after moving from New York to Los Angeles.
With his car out of commission, Stewart rode the bus every day from Echo Park to his downtown studio, past corner shops, glass towers and Skid Row, and that commute shaped the record. As on every Black Marble album, he played and produced everything himself on analog gear, but this time he wrote on an MPC and sequenced it live to his synths, using the computer only to record. He also pulled his vocals forward out of the reverb. The result is his most direct set of coldwave and synth-pop: syncopated drum machines, staccato arpeggios and songs like "One Eye Open" and "Grey Eyeliner" that shimmer over an undercurrent of melancholy.
The deep blue pressing includes a download card, a smart pick for fans of New Order, Molchat Doma or Drab Majesty.
