Avalon Emerson & the Charm's Written into Changes on green color vinyl, a limited color pressing of the second album under the Charm banner.
Where its predecessor was, in Emerson's words, soft and bedroomy, this one was built with the stage in mind: band-driven, groove-heavy and openly dance-adjacent. Nathan Jenkins, better known as Bullion, co-produced the bulk of it across a winter and spring in Braintree, England, with two tracks handled by Rostam Batmanglij in Los Angeles. "Eden" carries a baggy, break-beat swing straight out of the late 80s and early 90s, while "How Dare This Beer" is a witty nod to the Magnetic Fields. Bass was a stated priority throughout, and it shows.
The lyrics come from Emerson's own life, more direct than before: the move from Berlin to Los Angeles, a marriage, and the hard business of loving people you cannot change. A record about not merely accepting change but leaning into it.
