Under the guidance of Rick Rubin, Love and Rockets experienced a musical shift towards a more guitar-driven sound in their 1996 release, Sweet F.A. During the period when the band resided and worked at Rubin's studio mansion, an unfortunate incident occurred: a fire broke out, resulting in the loss of all their equipment, some demo recordings, and posing a near-death experience for the band members. The album's cover prominently features a charred guitar salvaged from the wreckage. The resultant album drew inspiration from the band's earliest influences, such as The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, and Can. It weaves tales of passion and loss, carried by a flowing and evocative pulsation. The music features undulating and hypnotic rhythms entwined with poignant lyrics that explore the fundamental aspects of life. Ethereal electronic effects complement the resonating guitars, creating a captivating contrast.
