"Roman Candle" is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, released while he was still a member of his first band, Heatmiser. Its unexpected success created tensions within the band, ultimately leading to its dissolution. Smith recorded "Roman Candle" using a four-track tape recorder, which gave the album its lo-fi, folk-inspired sound. When he first submitted it to his label, Cavity Search, he anticipated they would only release a 7-inch single. He was, therefore, surprised when the label decided to release the full album.
