The xx released Coexist after a lengthy tour in 2009. They began writing individually, but came together in 2011 & 2012 to record. There is a strong influence from electronic dance music. The album was produced by the band's Jamie xx, who had pursued electronic dance on other projects and developed as a DJ prior to the album.
