With her sophomore album, Crushing, Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Julia Jacklin pushes against expectations with an intensity of feeling. Crushing is a narrative of heartsickness and infatuation, an exploration of how our physical experiences shape our inner lives. In her own words: “For a long time I felt like my head was full of fear and my body was just this functional thing that carried me from point A to B, and writing these songs was like rejoining the two.” Produced by Burke Reid and recorded at The Grove Studios, Crushing breathes with a raw and luminous sonic backdrop. From every sound of every instrument, to vocal inflections and exhales, you can feel the thoughtful defiance in every song.
