Mr. Bad Example is one of the great late period Warren Zevon albums and one of the funniest records in his catalog. Released in 1991 with contributions from members of R.E.M. and Waddy Wachtel on guitar, it moves between blackly comic character studies and some of the most straightforwardly beautiful songs he ever wrote. The title track narrates a career of fraud and cruelty over an Irish tinged arrangement, while Searching For A Heart is entirely sincere and completely devastating. Zevon's gift was writing both kinds of song without either undercutting the other. This vinyl pressing has been unavailable for years, and the album deserves the attention it never got at the time.
