Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup - 2LP Vinyl Record
Emperor Tomato Ketchup is the Stereolab album that pulled everything together: motorik rhythms, Farfisa drone, Laetitia Sadier's cool French-English vocals and a new sharpness in the arrangements, thanks in part to John McEntire of Tortoise on production. "Metronomic Underground" sets the tone with nine minutes of hypnotic bass groove, "Cybele's Reverie" is the closest the band came to a pop single, and "Percolator" still turns up on every introduction-to-Stereolab playlist ever made. Named after a Shuji Terayama film, released in 1996, and widely treated as their high point. This 2LP edition uses the 2019 remaster cut from the original half-inch tapes by Bo Kondren at Calyx Mastering in Berlin, overseen by Tim Gane, and comes in a 5mm printed sleeve with printed inners and a protective outer bag. Note it does not carry the bonus material from the discontinued 3LP version. A record worth hearing loud.
