Strange Mercy is the third St. Vincent album, released by 4AD in 2011. Annie Clark wrote much of it during a self-imposed retreat in Seattle, and the songs carry that sense of isolation: anxious, wry and deeply personal, with lyrics that hint at loss and longing without ever spelling them out.

Recorded in Dallas with producer John Congleton, it is also the album where her guitar playing moved to center stage. "Cruel" pairs a sugary melody with a snarling fuzz riff, "Cheerleader" builds to a towering chorus, and "Surgeon" ends in one of her most thrilling solos. The title track and "Year of the Tiger" show her quieter, more haunting side, and the whole record balances polish and danger in a way few indie albums of its era managed.

This 4AD LP comes in a gatefold sleeve with lyrics and credits. A cornerstone of any modern indie collection.

Shipping
Orders typically ship within two business days. Media Mail might be budget-friendly, but it travels at a glacial pace and gets little love from the postal service. For faster, smoother delivery, choose USPS Priority or UPS/USPS Ground.

Returns
Unopened returns accepted within 30 days — you cover shipping.

If your record arrives damaged or folded (thanks, postal service), reach out ASAP so we can fix it.

After 30 days, it’s yours to keep forever.

Avoid extreme heat or sunlight. Definitely don’t let it mingle with any Justin Bieber records. Treat it like your grandma — gentle, respectful, and quiet during Murder, She Wrote.
