Leave Home arrived in 1977, barely a year after the debut, and proves the Ramones were not a one album accident. The songs are tighter, the production is cleaner, and the hooks come faster. Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment and Commando are pure velocity, while California Sun shows how much fifties pop was baked into what people called punk. Pinhead gave the band its live rallying cry, and Swallow My Pride is one of Joey Ramone's best vocal performances. Nothing here overstays its welcome, with most tracks clocking in under two and a half minutes. This remastered pressing brings out the guitar separation that earlier editions flattened. A short, perfect record that belongs next to the debut on any punk shelf.
