Radiohead - Kid A - Vinyl Record (2LP)
When Radiohead released Kid A in 2000, it was the sound of the biggest rock band in the world deliberately walking away from guitars. Inspired by electronic music, jazz and ambient composition, the album traded anthems for drifting synths, glitchy rhythms and Thom Yorke's processed, half-buried vocals, and in doing so it redrew the map for what alternative music could be.
Everything in Its Right Place opens with a hypnotic electric piano loop, The National Anthem erupts into free-jazz brass chaos, and How to Disappear Completely is one of the most beautiful, string-swept songs the band ever recorded. Idioteque turns paranoia into a dance track, and Motion Picture Soundtrack closes the album in a haze of harp and organ.
This XL Recordings 2LP pressing spreads the album over four sides, giving its deep low end and wide dynamics plenty of room. A landmark of experimental rock and an essential part of any Radiohead collection.
