After years of self released songs and constant touring, the Montclair, New Jersey band distilled everything into eight tracks of indie rock shot through with pop melody and country phrasing. Evan Stephens Hall writes in colorful, kinetic strokes, and the core he shares with brothers Zack Levine on drums and Nick Levine on guitar has the ease of musicians who have played together since childhood. Twangy opener Old Friends carries a downtrodden nostalgia, while Size Of The Moon builds to a refrain where the admission that he does not know what he is afraid of works as both singalong and quiet breakdown. Memory, language and home are the threads Hall keeps returning to, and at eight songs nothing outstays its welcome. A Run For Cover release that has aged into a modern indie staple, and a fine place to start with the band.
