Land of Talk - Some Are Lakes Vinyl Record
Some Are Lakes is the debut full-length from Montreal's Land of Talk, released by Saddle Creek in 2008 on the heels of their acclaimed EP, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss. Elizabeth Powell, bassist Chris McCarron and drummer Andrew Barr recorded most of it in a converted church outside Montreal, with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon producing and adding guitar and organ.
Powell's airy, expressive vocals sit at the heart of the record, and the songs never settle into the expected. "Yuppy Flu" and "Death By Fire" open with nervy energy, "The Man Who Breaks Things (Dark Shuffle)" rides jangly guitars, "Corner Phone" is a chaotic burst of surf rock on speed, and the title song, the album's first single, carries the memorable line "Can't keep down a girl who loves music". The lyrics turn insecurity into determination, and the unpolished production mirrors the rawness of the delivery.
A striking, unpredictable debut from one of Canada's most distinctive indie rock bands.

Unopened returns accepted within 30 days — you cover shipping.
If your record arrives damaged or folded (thanks, postal service), reach out ASAP so we can fix it.

Avoid extreme heat or sunlight. Definitely don’t let it mingle with any Justin Bieber records. Treat it like your grandma — gentle, respectful, and quiet during Murder, She Wrote.
