This Mirror Weighs a Ton is Interpol's eighth studio album, their first in four years and their debut for Partisan Records. Paul Banks has said the band approached it with a new focus after their 2024 free concert in Mexico City, played to a crowd of more than 150,000, and the result sounds like a group determined to make every song count.
Andrew Wyatt produced and Dave Fridmann mixed, and together they widen the band's sound without losing its dark, taut core. Strings, woodwinds, layered vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar now sit alongside the familiar interlocking guitars and driving rhythm section. Single "Iron City" shows how well the two sides fit together, and the title track opens the record with real weight.
This edition spreads the twelve songs across two black LPs in a gatefold jacket.
