The album was also released in the United States under the band name "The English Beat" and in Australia under the band name "The British Beat".
The album was well received from the start, with publications such as Rolling Stone raving that the music was "wild and threatening, sexy and sharp." AllMusic later called it a "stunning achievement" that has not been diminished by time.
